What's your role at Gaia Community?
Being an interactive designer (UI designer), my job is to make our web site look good and easy to use.
What do you most enjoy doing (or what are your greatest passions)?
I have a spectrum of passions from the superficial (playing music, photography, web surfing,...) to the deep (inner development, sitting on a mountain top, healing, connecting with Gaia, etc.)
What's your favorite thing about our community?
The people!

User Interface Changes a Foot

We humans fear change, but that's silly 'cause as we all know, change is constant. And, well, members of this community should be hip to THAT concept, right?
So.. anyway, I'm very excited to be part of that change! It's rather daunting, but I'm going to be doing some serious design work on the UI for this web site. The overall look and feel as well as usability! For one thing, the interface doesn't reflect our innerface. What I mean is... the user interface isn't all that intuitive -- even for those of us who have been in the community for a long time.
My wife recently tried to sign up but gave up, frustrated, half-way through the process. I know that I have had confusion about how to get where I want to go when my profile navigation bar comes and goes. Etc. etc. etc.
I've been checking out everyone's comments in the Ideas section (try to find 'em.. another example of messed up usability). Anyway, "keep it simple" is a big theme, here. Believe me, we're all about simple here. And as a UI designer, I am especially concerned with ease of use and simplicity.
Anyway, we'll be working hard on making some dramatic improvements in the coming weeks. Be looking for changes and ideas as they are developed. I welcome user comments, of course, but if your idea is to make everything blink, fuhgetaboudit. :)

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 27, 2007:
Working with like-minded people -- people who want to change the world for the better. Working in a close-knit team of creative, inspiring, progressive individuals, making up a whole that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Working with people who "get it". ;-)
